Megan Canavan grew up with horses. She began riding at the age of 3 (when she wasn't napping on the back of a pony in her mother's lesson ring.) Megan rides horses, trains horses and has competed on horses at the Virginia Horse Center and at Devon. Even her other car is a horse. She is lead instructor for advanced students.
Doreen Innella has ridden and worked around horses since she was a member of the Bridlewild Pony Club. After becoming a certified instructor at the Potomac Horse Center, she taught at Ashford from 1980 to 1996. While at home with her young children, Doreen served as District Commissioner of the Bridlewild Pony Club. She came back to Ashford to instruct advanced students in dressage and jumping.
Jessica Kulp began riding when she was 10 and advanced to compete in hunter-jumper classes in the United States and Portugal, where she lived with her family while in high school. When she returned to Philadelphia to attend college, she began working at Ashford. She now teaches the basics of English hunt seat to beginning and intermediate students.
Ashford Farm offers lessons by appointment year-round for children and adults at every level of ability. Ashford prides itself on having friendly, approachable instructors who help students to improve their skills, expand their knowledge of the sport, and gain new respect for the horses, themselves and each other. Ashford students go on to ride in competition and for pleasure through high school, college and adulthood.
We are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday from September through May. During the summer, when our day camp is in session, lessons are limited to weekday evenings and Saturdays. All lessons are one hour unless otherwise indicated.
Children must be at least 8 years old to ride in lessons at Ashford. Parents of children younger than 8 who are seeking an introductory experience are invited to call Sandy Hill Farm at 610-277-0617.
Because Ashford Farm does not offer trail riding, we recommend that you call Red Buffalo Ranch in Collegeville at 610-489-9707 or Sheeder Mill Farm in Kimberton at 610-469-9382 to schedule a trail.
